How a scrap car sale works

What are the steps to sell a scrap car to Cash for Scrap Junk Cars?

Tell us the car and its title status, get an offer by phone, then book a pickup. Our driver checks the car matches the description, you sign the title and show two IDs, and you're paid at pickup in cash, by Zelle or by Cash App while we tow the car away free from your Crestwood-area address.

Call (773) 394-1071 for an offer

1. Describe the car

Use the form on this page or call. We need the year, make and model, and which of these fits your paperwork: you have the title, you don't, or you have the registration only. Then your name, a phone number and where the car is parked.

If anything big is missing, like the engine, the wheels or the catalytic converter, mention it now. It's the difference between an offer that holds and one that changes at the curb.

2. Get the offer

We call back with a number for your car. It reflects the car's weight, what metal is worth that week, what's still on the car and any parts worth more than their weight. The guide on how scrap car value works explains each piece. You can say yes, think it over or say no. The offer doesn't expire, so there's no rush to decide.

3. Book the pickup

We agree a time. Same-day pickup is often possible. Tell us if the car is in a tight garage, an apartment or condo lot, a repair shop or on the street, and whether it rolls. For lots and shops, let the manager know our tow truck is coming. Got more than one car to clear out? One visit can take several.

4. The pickup

Our tow truck comes to the car, and the driver looks it over to confirm it matches what you described. Then the paperwork: Illinois requires a scrap buyer to record the seller's identity from at least two forms of ID, one of them a driver's license or state ID card, and to collect proof of ownership, usually the title. You sign the seller's section of the title there and then.

Take your plates off before the car goes. In Illinois they belong to you, not the car.

5. You're paid, the car goes

You're paid at pickup in cash, by Zelle or by Cash App, whichever you prefer. The car is loaded and towed away free. Afterwards, file the Seller's Report of Sale with the Secretary of State; our after-the-sale checklist has the details.

Questions we get

How long does the whole thing take?
The call and the offer are quick. The pickup depends on the day's schedule; same-day pickup is often possible if you call early.
Can a friend or relative hand the car over?
Yes, as long as the person signing the title is the owner or has legal authority, and whoever is there can show ID and accept payment. Tell us on the call.
What if I change my mind after the offer?
Nothing happens. There's no obligation to accept the offer.
