Cash for Scrap Junk Cars

Wrecked and totaled cars, bought for scrap

Can I sell a wrecked car for scrap in Crestwood?

Yes. Cash for Scrap Junk Cars buys wrecked and totaled cars in Crestwood and the nearby southwest suburbs. Crash damage changes how much of the car is reusable, but the metal is still there, so a wrecked car has scrap value. We tow it free, from your home or a body shop, and pay you at pickup.

Call (773) 394-1071 for an offer

A crash turns a working car into a math problem. The repair estimate comes back, it’s more than the car was worth, and now you have a heap of bent metal in a driveway or a shop lot.

Damage versus metal

Two different things decide what a wrecked car is worth to a scrap buyer. One is the metal: the frame, the body panels that are left, the engine block, the wheels. Most of that survives a crash, crumpled or not. The other is what could be sold as a used part. A front-end hit can wreck the radiator, headlights and bumper while leaving the doors, the rear suspension and often the engine fine.

So the details we ask about are specific. Which corner took the hit? Did the airbags go off? Does the engine still turn over? Is the car complete, or did the shop already pull anything? Those answers move the offer more than the word “totaled” does. The full breakdown is in our guide to how scrap car value works.

If insurance is involved

Settle the ownership question before you sell. If you’re keeping the car after a total-loss settlement, or you never filed a claim, it’s yours to sell. If the insurer paid you and took the title, it isn’t. A quick call to the adjuster avoids an awkward pickup.

Illinois has a form called the Affidavit in Lieu of Certificate of Title for a Salvage or Junk Vehicle (VSD 929). People sometimes ask about it, but the Secretary of State says it is only for insurers under the Illinois Insurance Code who have paid a total-loss claim. It is not a way for an owner to skip the title. What a private seller needs instead is covered on our no-title page.

Picking up from a body shop or tow yard

Wrecked cars often sit somewhere other than home. We tow from body shops and lots as long as you’ve cleared it with them. Pay any storage or teardown charges first and let the office know when we’re coming. Tell us on the call if the car can’t roll; a car with a broken wheel or a pushed-in suspension gets loaded differently.

Fix, part out or scrap

Some wrecked cars are worth more in pieces, if you have the time, tools and space to sell parts one at a time. Most owners don’t, and a half-stripped car sitting in view runs into village nuisance rules. We lay out the trade-offs plainly in scrap it or sell it for parts. If the crash left the car missing big pieces, read stripped and incomplete cars too.

Questions we get

The car is at a body shop. Can you pick it up there?
Yes. Clear any storage or repair bill with the shop first and tell them a tow is coming. We'll need the shop's address and hours on the call.
My insurer said the car is a total loss. Can I still sell it to you?
If you still own it, yes. If the insurer paid the claim and took the title, the car is theirs and they decide what happens to it. Ask your insurer before you sell.
Do deployed airbags or a bent frame matter?
They affect what could be reused, so tell us. A bent frame is still steel, and steel is most of what a scrap offer is built on.
