Orland Park is the farthest town on our list, and an easy drive: south on Cicero, then straight west on 159th Street. About ten miles and eighteen minutes without traffic.

The shape of the village

Orland Park is large, about 22 square miles with 58,703 residents (2020 Census). Most of it is in Cook County, across Orland, Palos and Bremen townships, with a small part in Will County’s Frankfort Township. Its main ZIP codes are 60462 and 60467, and 60487 is shared with Tinley Park and Orland Hills.

The village runs down to I-80, its southern edge. Going around it: Palos Park and Palos Heights on the north side, Oak Forest east, Tinley Park southeast, Orland Hills and Mokena south, Homer Glen west.

The main roads

  • La Grange Road (US-45), the spine of the village north to south, meeting I-80 at exit 145.
  • 159th Street (US-6), the big east-west road, and the one we take in.
  • Harlem Avenue (IL-43), near the eastern border.
  • IL-7, crossing the village with junctions at Wolf Road and 159th Street and at La Grange Road.
  • 167th Street, a county road that runs entirely within Orland Park.

Three SouthWest Service Metra stations serve the village, at 143rd, 153rd and 179th Streets. Other good reference points: Orland Square Mall, Orland Park Crossing, the Main Street Triangle redevelopment by 143rd and La Grange, Lake Sedgewick and McGinnis Slough.

Houses and townhomes

About 86 percent of homes are owner-occupied, and roughly 78 percent are single-unit, with 57 percent detached houses, by 2020 to 2024 census estimates. So a pickup here is mostly a driveway or a garage, with a fair number of townhome and attached-home lots. For an association lot, let the management know a tow is coming.

Orland Park’s parking limits

Beyond posted signs, Orland Park’s code sets these limits:

  • One day. No vehicle may stay parked in the same place on a public street for over 24 hours (§ 9-7-1(13)).
  • Long vehicles and trailers. Anything over 22 feet, or towing a trailer, has to stay off streets and alleys (§ 9-7-1(14)).
  • Snow. Past two inches on the pavement, parking shrinks to a few minutes for loading from the first flakes until eight hours after the snow ends and plowing is complete, and police can tow (§ 9-7-6).
  • Old Orland. Some streets are “Old Orland Parking Only,” by decal (§ 9-7-8).

The ten-day notice

Orland Park’s nuisance code covers a dead car anyone can see, whether it’s on a street or your own driveway (§ 6-2-2-11). A car qualifies once it has been unable to drive itself for a week because something essential is missing or broken. Short repair jobs of up to three days don’t count, and a car kept indoors is outside the rule. Once the village posts a tow notice, the tow goes on the calendar for day ten, and the owner can ask for a hearing before then.

If the car isn’t worth fixing, a non-running car sale before the tenth day settles it. Our inoperable car rules guide shows how the ten-day rule compares with the neighbours’.

After a crash on La Grange or 159th

A car that comes home on a flatbed after a crash, or never comes home from the body shop, is still a scrap car. We pick up from shops as well as driveways once any bill is settled; see wrecked and totaled cars.

Orland Park questions

How long can a car sit on an Orland Park street?
A day at most: the code caps parking in one spot at 24 hours. Vehicles longer than 22 feet, or hitched to a trailer, can't be left on streets or alleys at all.
What happens after an inoperable-vehicle notice in Orland Park?
The car gets a tow date ten days out. Before that date, the owner can request a hearing, or simply have the car removed.
Does Orland Park still sell vehicle stickers?
No. In April 2026 the village board repealed the whole vehicle license chapter, calling it obsolete.
